The Wallaces in Austin Texas
(Posted 05/24/06) - Pat and Jon visited Matt in Austin Texas to celebrate his graduation last Friday. Matt Wallace graduated from University of Texas' McComb's School of Business, receiving an MBA!
The graduation was Friday afternoon. We walked from Matt's apartment near the campus to Gregory Gymnasium around 2:30PM. The day was bright and sunny, with temps in the mid-90's. The Gym was well air-conditioned, and the seats comfortable.
The keynote address was given by former CEO of FedEx Kinko, Gary Kusin, who shared his thoughts on what ethics in business means today.
McComb's graduated 340+ MBA candidates that Friday. Matt was one of 31 students receiving the Sond's Scholar Award (GPA > 3.8).
After a quick photo op outside Gregory Gymnasium, Matt, Holly, Pat, and I went to the Austin Driscoll Hotel for drinks and a great multi-course dinner with Matt's Study Team and their families.
We stayed with Matt at his apartment in Austin for the next few days. During that time we enjoyed several really great meals. We ate at Stubb's and Habana on 6th, which are in downtown Austin; and at the Iguana Grill which sits above Austin's Lake Travis.
We also visited a wonderful dog-park peninsula calld Red-Bud Isle on Town Lake. Strider chased Frisbee's and tennis balls out into the lake while we sat in the shade of giant Live Oaks and picnic'd. Lots of fun.
